A New Rand Paul Fan

I just became a Rand Paul fan. Check out this video where he gives an excellent defense of free market policies.

Greta pitched him a question about Google, implying they should not be legally avoiding taxes. I love how Rand Paul defended Google’s tax avoidance. And he is spot on. In the free market, self interest should be praised, not berated. But with a second swing, he noted that Google should not be advocating higher taxes, if they want to avoid them.

This makes Mr. Paul a true free market supporter. See, some Republicans claim to support freedom and the free market, but then at the same time attack the rights of the ‘enemy’. (such as in the case where many Republican commentators supported a court order forcing Google to release a name list of bloggers)

But the truth is, there is no ‘enemy’. There are only people who don’t understand the value of self interest and family interest in a free market. And Rand made that excellent distinction when talking about Google. It’s great that they can act in self interest. But he would like them to stop advocating to take away others’ freedom. Especially when Google is exercising freedom by legally avoiding taxes, which is something that most small businesses earning over $250,000 don’t have the resources to do.

Overall, the argument Mr. Paul made comes from a solid understanding of the free market. It is not an argument a moderate would have been able to make, because deep down, moderates don’t love the concept of a free market. I’m thrilled to see Ron Paul’s heir is a true free market supporter.
