You have to see it to believe it, so check out the video on HotAir.com.
In the video, Piers Morgan, of CNN, is interviewing Rick Warren, author of ‘A Purpose Driven Life’.
I like how Mr. Warren doesn’t let Morgan rile him up. He just quietly says ‘no’, and explains that he believes truth does not change, and that human opinion, which changes constantly, is flawed.
It’s a fantastic defense, and makes me respect Mr. Warren all the more.
As Ed Morrissey writes:
It would be equally absurd to think that anyone would base their faith on the amended product, a Gospel According To Piers, if you will, unless people decided that Piers is either God Himself or a new prophet, in which case he’d probably have a better gig.
And if you don’t think that the Bible is the unerring word of God … why would you care what’s in it at all?
Right on, Ed.
This actually got me to thinking: if there’s one person in this world who could modify the Bible, and gain a substantial following, who do you think it would be? The answer: Barack Obama.
Read, for example, these comments from a recent blog post on Obama’s website:
This isn’t a one time example of devotion to Obama. If you view other comments on his website, you frequently find commentators discussing their love of Obama, and love of each other, mixed together with casual greetings. And this little ‘community’ has been cultivating for some time now; I found even more extreme comments on his website years ago during the 2008 campaign cycle.
I’m all for plugging into a group of like-minded individuals. But this isn’t just a community; it’s a following.
In fact, I think Obama probably could get his following rallied around an amended version of the Bible. He could start just by omitting a few verses, including one that Piers Morgan doesn’t like concerning homosexuality:
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll. – Revelations 20:18-19
“You shall not steal.” – Exodus 20:15
In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. – Romans 1:27
